![]() All the major characters aside from 1 are humans, and the one supernatural character isn't very far removed from the human world in terms of understanding him as a character. ![]() It's more grounded in reality then a lot of anime, with only light supernatural elements, that revolve around the show's central plot device. Some people will try to tell you the japanese version is better, but honestly, all the english voice actors did such an excellent job there's no need to force yourself to read subtitles. I'd recommend the english dub of DeathNote. (e.g.: MGS3 ending, pretty serious! MGS2 ending, what the fuck!)Ībsolutely. It reaches a point where I'm like, "Are you trying to actually get a point across on how you feel about war, or are you just being ridiculously dumb and over the top?" Or both I guess.Īt the end of the day I choose to take the series with a grain of salt the games were enjoyable and some of it was hilarious, but I can't tell how seriously to take anything that happens. But if this isn't serious, then why the fuck am I invested in these games to begin with? Are they just laughing at my expense as I play each game? Like, it got to a point where I wondered: if this is serious, this is the most ridiculous, over-the-top plot possible. Then some moments of 2 and 4 made me think, "Are these this self involved, or this self-aware?" Like telling me to stop playing video games and shit, or basically every twist of MGS4's plot. It was this self-referential, goofy style that I thought really worked (especially some of the codec conversations). I really liked MGS3 and MGS1's sense of humor. I like the series a lot, I think my thing is.
